30 January 2017

Selected recent Solvency II news items:

In his speech "The future of the European insurance industry in a digitial era: turning challenges into opportunities" on 25 January, EIOPA's chair referred to the "disruptive" impact of digitalisation and Big Data. Gabriel Bernardino used the speech to cover the culture required for a successful industry. He said that EIOPA will also organise a series of roundtables dedicated to “Insurtech” as they look to develop a "regulatory framework that promotes the highest standards of consumer protection while not hindering innovation." He views the risk management and disclosure requirements in Solvency II as a "game changer...[where] boards of insurance companies have a fundamental role to play" and "opportunity... to engage with stakeholders" respectively.
