New Business Reporting Actuary
 
Location: Bristol (UK) with some travel to Salisbury.
Daily rate: Excellent, market rate.
Experience: Qualified Actuary.
Length of contract: 6 months.

Our client is looking for a qualified actuary with some post-qualification experience to support the firm's VNB Project in the delivery of process, systems and organisational design to ensure integrated and improved actuarial outcomes. Specifically VNB results include associated new business metrics, with corresponding analysis, interpretation, and communication of result. Candidate should also be able to assist the Project Manager and BAU Team Lead to co-ordinate the staff to complete the work.

The successful candidate will need to be able to grasp complex actuarial concepts, work independently to provide recommendations, and guide and motivate the project team working on their processes.

The role involves:

  • work independently on actuarial measures, using actuarial experience and judgement, to ensure results are delivered on time to the required quality;
  • provide actuarial expertise, by using actuarial knowledge to provide advice and recommendations in New Business Reporting;
  • ensure delivery of analysis of actuarial results is produced, using actuarial judgement and analytical skills, to produce high quality analysis of key metrics for use by Business Unit and Group management teams;
  • understanding user requirements to define “to be” process;
  • define requirements for actuarial models developments;
  • take a lead technical role in the delivery of the target model against the dimensions of process, systems and people;
  • co-ordinate analysts in the production of the results and analyses mentioned above, providing direction to ensure staff are able to deliver quality output; and
  • coach and motivate New Business Reporting Team to ensure they are able to work effectively with the delivered systems and process.

Skills and experience required:

  • ability to organise, motivate and develop others;
  • working in a change or large scale project environment;
  • Fellow of the Institute (or Faculty) of Actuaries with some post qualification experience;
  • experience and understanding of regulatory requirements, or capital reporting regimes;
  • business acumen;
  • good written and verbal communication skills – able to interact with senior management;
  • ability to communicate technical content clearly (to all levels), including to a non-technical audience;
  • ability to work under pressure;
  • analytical problem solving skills;
  • experience of people management; and
  • ideally, experience of structured development methodology.

Student Actuaries - Actuarial Operations
 
Location: Dorking (UK).
Daily rate: Excellent, market rate.
Experience: Nearly Qualified Actuary.
Length of contract: 6 months.

Our client is seeking 3 full-time contractors for up to 6 months to provide actuarial support to a number of escalation projects. This is an urgent vacancy so only candidates with a maximum of 8 weeks' current notice should apply.

The role is primarily concerned with assisting in the development of calculation bases and spreadsheets, to enable policy records to be corrected.

Skills and experience required:

  • experience with individual life and pensions products, including unitised with profits and old conventional business;
  • experienced Excel developer, including VBA;
  • strong mathematical skills, likely to have an actuarial background;
  • experience in identifying and defining the system data needed to identify and resolve errors in customer records;
  • ability to write efficient complex spreadsheets using system data to enable customer detriment to be calculated in bulk;
  • attention to detail and accuracy;

Student Actuary - Strategy, Capital and Risk (Group Capital Team) 1
 
Location: Dorking (UK) with some travel to London.
Daily rate: Excellent, market rate.

Our client is looking for a senior student to bolster the team's capability, in particular, to complete the future Part VII transfers that will be required as part of the ongoing optimisation of the business.

The role involves:

  • support the delivery of Part VII transfers by the Group Capital Team;
  • contribute to the delivery of AFH, WPA and other scheme related reports by:
    • sourcing data for the reports; and
    • calculating figures for inclusion in the reports.
  • develop process improvements to ensure the improved efficiency, timeliness and accuracy of future Part VIIs; and
  • team working with the reporting teams, legal teams and accounting teams to foster a good team spirit and working environment; to be an ambassador for the Group Capital Team.

Student Actuary - Strategy, Capital and Risk (Group Capital Team) 2

Our client is looking for a senior student to bolster the team's capability, in particular, to support the evaluation of proposed capital management initiatives, and estimating projected actuarial metrics.

The role involves:

  • support the delivery of the evaluation phase of capital initiatives and implementation phases of financial restructuring by the Group Capital Team;
    • own and manage the models used by the Group Capital team to produce estimates and projections;
    • produce figures as required to support the assessment of initiatives; and
    • maintain and develop the models to ensure they are fit for purpose.

Actuarial Analysts - Solvency II
 
Location: Dorking (UK) with some travel.
Daily rate: Excellent, market rate.

Our client is looking for two actuarial analysts to join an existing team of experienced actuaries in carrying out the workplans and creating the body of evidence to demonstrate that the Internal Model satisfied the Solvency II tests in support of the firm's application to the FSA for Internal Model approval.

The role involves:

  • Solvency II Pillar 1 methodology role;
  • reporting to the Workstream Project Manager and Actuarial Lead;
  • would join an existing team of several experienced actuaries creating the body of evidence to demonstrate that the Internal Model satisfied the Solvency II tests to support application to the FSA for Internal Model approval; and
  • the main Solvency II tests the work focuses on are Statistical Quality, Validation and Documentation of methodology.

Skills and experience required:

  • ideally 3-5 years post qualification life insurance experience with good technical background;
  • realistic balance sheet, ICA and Solvency II experience important;
  • good written and spoken communication; and
  • ability to deliver to deadlines.
